There are two ways of send in your stories.

Header information here:

1. Post your story as a comment to this post. All comments on this post are screened and I will reply to your story comment let you know that it has been received. You may find that if your story is near the top of the word count for this weeks challenge, 700 words, it might not all fit in a comment. If this is the case please email it to the address below.

2. You can post your story to torchwoodlas@gmail.com
You can have the story as the text of the email or as an attachment.

Skips cannot be used on this challenge or the next as these are the last two challenges of round one.

If for some reason you are unable to use these options you can PM the story or skip to me at the_silver_sun
Apologies for the lateness of this, this should have been up an hour and a half ago.

Theme: Mistakes. (Mistaken identity, mistaken as harmless or harmful, a mistake which ends up having a good outcome or a bad one, silly mistakes like putting sugar on your chips instead of salt, maybe somebody has to admit to having made a mistake, or a past mistake comes back to haunt somebody.)

Additional word/object/element:  A type of weather (rain, snow, warm sunshine, hail stones, high winds, fog.)

Maximum Word Count: 800 words.  (Because word programs vary in how they count as long as the word count you give me is 800 words or less I'll take your word for it. Words in the header don't count towards the total.)

Deadline:  9pm UK/4pm EST Sunday the 8th of July. (This is two days later than usual because of Independence Day being midweek.)

Any characters, any series, any genre, any pairing or no pairing they're all good.

Submitting your entry:

You can either post it directly into the screened comments on this entry http://torchwood-las.livejournal.com/9040.html
or sent it to torchwoodlas@gmail.com

When submitting your entry use the following header.

Skipping this round
Because we are into the last two rounds skips can no longer be used.

Any other information:

Because we will be having anonymous voting on the stories please don't post them anywhere until after the voting has finished, and it's been revealed who wrote what.

Stories don't need to be beta'd. If you do use a beta the 'don't vote for yourself' applies to both the writer and beta reader of the fic.

Please don't tell people which story is yours and ask them to vote for it. Telling people there's stories to vote on without saying which is your is good though, more readers/votes means more feedback for everybody.

I will let writers know when I've received their story. If you haven't heard in 24 hours or a couple of hours if it's on the deadline day I've not received it and could you send it again.

Any questions ask on this post and I'll try to answer them.

(I will put up the post for and about voting at the same time the story post goes up, which will be up as soon as I can manage after the deadline.)

Thank you to all the writers who've taken part, all your stories were great. And thank you to the 6 readers who voted, it's much appreciated.   Writers you may now cross post your stories wherever you wish.

Our winner for this round is jolinarjackson who's story The End of the Line had a score of +1 votes.  So very well done, and as winner of the round you get an extra skip to use if you need to.

Sadly we'll be saying goodbye for now to  firesnap who's The Dangers of Tinkering finished the round with -1 votes. It was a very tough round with lots of good stories, and so few votes separating highest and lowest scoring.  Maybe we'll see more your stories if you chose to join again when we have our next round of sign ups in August.

I've made a table with the results of this round and the skips writers have left here at google docs I will update as part of the results post each round.

Use the post if you want to talk, discuss or otherwise chat about your fics for this round. You can ask for additional feedback in this post if you wish. (The voting feedback - the text, but not who gave it -  will be PM'd to you all shortly.)

Prompts will be up at their normal time tomorrow, but there will be two extra days of writing time (Stories due Sunday rather than Friday) because Independence Day is midweek, and because skips can't be used for round 1-5 as the winners of that round go through to the final.

Round one - challenge four story post

Round 1-4 story post.
Prompts were: Out of Time and flower(s).

Okay this is the story post, please don't post your votes in the comments to this post. The voting post is here: http://torchwood-las.livejournal.com/8120.html

four stories of around 700 words under the cutCollapse )

Round one - challenge four voting post

This is the voting post for round one challenge four.

Voting is open until 9pm UK/4pm EST on Thursday the 28th of June - six days from now.

Anybody can vote – you don't have to be a writer. Writers you don't have to vote, although it would be good if you did.

As I'm running the comm. I am not voting, not even if there's a tie, as I know who wrote what and it wouldn't be fair.

Writers please don't vote for your own story either to win or to vote out, and please don't tell people which one is your story and ask them to vote for it. Letting people know that there are stories here to vote on (without saying which is your) is good though.

How to vote.

Please leave a comment (they are screened) below with the name/number of the entry you liked the best, and the one that you liked the least. Please give a reason, however brief as to why you've chosen as you have.

So it would looks something like:

Story to win: Story X. It was such a unique take on the prompt, and their characterisation of Janet the Weevil was spot on.

Story to vote out: Story Y. It was an interesting idea, but there seemed to be no kind of conclusion to it.

Please read all the stories if you can before voting. If there's a reason why you can't read a story/stories such as triggering content (stories will carry warnings if this is present) that is fine, just read the stories you're able to.

Please remember that the writer of the story will see what you've written - (Although not who wrote it, as feedback will be email/pm'ed to them if they wish to see it, minus the voters name.)

Not sure how to give a positive or negative vote? A few answers/ideas under the cutCollapse )

Quick check in.

So we've got just under a day and a half until stories for round 1-5 are due in - 9pmUK/4pm EST on Friday 22nd June.

One skip has been recieved and no stories as yet.

If you have sent a story I've not recieved it, so could you please send it again.
Theme: Out of time. (Is somebody/something/somewhere running out of time? Is someone already out of time ie too late for something? Are they out of their original time in a 'I've fallen through the Rift' kind of way like Diane, Emma and John? Or maybe one of the team has been pulled into another time?)

Additional word/object/element:  A flower(s). (A single red rose. A wedding bouquet. Flowers on a grave. Hippy flowers in your hair. Standing in the shade of giant alien flowers that are 50 foot tall.)

Maximum Word Count: 700 words.  (Because word programs vary in how they count as long as the word count you give me is 700 words or less I'll take your word for it. Words in the header don't count towards the total.)

Deadline:  9pm UK/4pm EST Friday the 22th of June.

Any characters, any series, any genre, any pairing or no pairing they're all good.

Skipping this round/any other round.
Everybody taking part starts with one free skip which they can use so that they don't have to write for a round. This is the last round where skips can be used, as next round will be the one which decides on who gets into the final round.

If you need to use you skip either post a comment here http://torchwood-las.livejournal.com/7177.html or email to torchwoodlas@gmail.com to say you are using a skip for the round.

The deadline for using a skip is the same as if you were submitting a fic.

Skips can be earned for winning a round, and built up to a maximum of three. Skips can't be used when we only have four people left - so the last two rounds.

Thank you to all the writers who've taken part, all your stories were great. And thank you to the 13 readers who voted, it's much appreciated.   Writers you may now cross post your stories wherever you wish.

Our winner for this round is sariagray who's story Gun in Hand, Pen to Paper with a score of +5 votes.  So very well done, and as winner of the round you get an extra skip to use if you need to.

Sadly we'll be saying goodbye for now to  harkpad02 who's story Once They're Up finished the round with -4 votes. It was a very tough round with lots of good stories, and maybe we'll see more your stories if you chose to join again when we have our next round of sign ups in August.

We will also be saying goodbye to ms_bekahrose who due to real life time issues is leaving this round. Maybe we're see you next time.

The post containing the prompts for round 1-3 will be up tomorrow night at 9pm UK/4pm EST.

The writers with no skips left cookielaura and firesnap /> need to submit a story for the next set of prompts.

As we only have five writers remaining the next round will be the last were you can use skips. After round 1-4 there are only two more rounds. One with four writers (1-5). And the final round (1-6) with three writers.
There's just over two and a quarter days left for voting on round 1-3 and so far there have only been four votes received.

It would be nice to see a few more before voting closes.
